The roof edge is the strongest line on the building
From the street, what you actually see at night is an outline, and the roof draws it. Nothing else on the house runs that far uninterrupted, and nothing else is backed by open air. Put light on it and the house has an edge again, which is the effect people are actually after. That is the reason permanent systems live at the roof edge, and why one line up there outperforms a dozen fixtures at ground level. It is the most efficient piece of exterior lighting a house can have, for what it costs to install.
What is up there
The system is a slim aluminum track, matched to your trim color, carrying LEDs along the roof edge. The channel does two jobs at once: it aims the light and it conceals the hardware. Because it matches the trim, it disappears into the roof edge in daylight.
Not every edge needs it
Every plan starts with the primary roof edge, and grows from there. After the main line come the peaks, the entry and the porch roof, added only where it adds something. Lighting every edge on a house flattens it.Look along a completed run at eye level down the elevation, since a straight line over that span does not happen by accident.
Daylight is the other half of the design
The hardware does not come down, so the daytime look is part of the product. Matching the channel to your trim color is not a small detail, it is the thing that keeps the house looking like a house in July. Mount it tight to the edge, match the trim, and hide the wiring, and nothing about the daylight view changes.
One line, several jobs
Once the run is in, the rest is what you set it to. Warm white on an ordinary Tuesday. Red and green in December. A single color for Halloween. Team colors before a game. Most owners land on one white and leave it, using color for the handful of days that call for it.
What makes one roofline cost more than another
Two houses on the same
https://cristianjvip513.talesignal.com/posts/landscape-lighting-install-what-gets-lit-and-why-thinking-about-landscape-lighting-and-what-it-should-cost-you-in-effort street can quote well apart. Length matters less than people assume. Every direction change adds time. Height is the other one, because a second or third story changes the equipment and the time.
Does it go on the gutter?
The gutter comes up in almost every consultation. The channel fastens to the roof edge itself, not to a hanging piece of aluminum full of water half the year. That distinction matters since a gutter is not a permanent mounting point, and hardware attached to one goes wherever it goes.
The next step
Because houses are not interchangeable, the design has to be drawn for your building. EverCrest Lighting installs permanent roofline lighting for homes and businesses throughout Upstate South Carolina and Western North Carolina, based in Greenville. The consultation is free.
